We teamed up with Zahra Publishing to develop an iPhone App for their Easy Food publication that would stand out from their competitor’s offerings. The Result . . a number one app
Zahra Publishing founded in 2003 specialise in Consumer and Custom Publishing. In their Consumer Publishing Division they publish Easy Food, Easy Health and Easy Parenting; all Ireland’s highest circulating magazines in their respective categories.
Zahra Publishing approached KCO with the task of developing an iPhone Application for their Easy Food brand; they wanted an App that would compliment their comprehensive recipe database and the magazines large fan-base.
We first held a series of brainstorming sessions to establish an original concept and list of desired features for the App. We wanted to make it visually appealing, functional yet simple to use and to take full advantage of the extensive recipe database all in the aim of becoming the ‘must have kitchen utensil’.
The client did not want the App to be a carbon copy of the magazine but rather an extension of the brand – we therefore looked at different ways we could use the recipe database that would be genuinely useful to the ‘everyday’ or ‘once in a while’ cook.
The outcome of our brainstorming was a blueprint for a multi-functional App allowing users to search recipes based on what ingredients where available at home, when out shopping, giving ‘perfect match – starter and dessert’ ideas to main courses, an overview of ingredients that were currently in season, baking recipes, search function, special offers, and much, much more . . .
We then wire-framed (think of someone with a doodle-pad and pencil) the users experience from start to finish, then we added the design elements before building the App and performing extensive end user testing.
The Easy Food iPhone App went straight to number one (paid apps) for the lifestyle category. It met the client’s requirement of being an extension of the magazine, offering additional brand awareness, competitive edge and an extra source of revenue.
